Inner Struggle is Relatable, Perfection is Not
Mathieu V. Staelens
10.05.25 - 08.06.25
In this new series of paintings, Mathieu V. Staelens explores the tension between striving and acceptance — between inner struggle and outward form.
His work departs from a deeply human insight: no one is perfect. But it’s precisely in our struggle that meaning and connection can emerge. A recurring visual motif — the cauliflower — weaves through the series as a quiet symbol of introspection, vulnerability, and the courage to let go of limiting beliefs.
Staelens introduces a contemporary human image he describes as Post-Woke: aware, critical, imperfect — and yet radically connected to both self and world.
